About Guitar Tab in general...

You may only use guitar tab listed on this web site for private study, scholarship, or research. If your intentions are otherwise, please do not proceed to use this archive.

This archive bases it's legality on the "Fair Use" provision of the Copyright Act, United States Code Title 17, Section 107 which states that:

"...fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news, reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright."

Under certain conditions specified by law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproductions. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

Think of this archive as a research library; you must use the files for educational purposes. The guitar tablature listed on this web site is available for no profit and only for the purpose of teaching songs. As a rule, guitar tablature web sites should not accept submissions that have been taken from published material.

In addition, any public performance of the music listed on this web site without the express written consent of the copyright owner may be liable for copyright infringement. That being said, there are exemptions for the use of music for educational purposes and church services in the Copyright Act, United States Code Title 17, Section 110 which states that:

"...the following are not infringements of copyright:"

"(1) ...performance or display of a work by instructors or pupils in the course of face-to-face teaching activities of a nonprofit educational institution, in a classroom or similar place devoted to instruction..."

"(3) ...performance of a nondramatic literary or musical work or of a dramatico-musical work of a religious nature, or display of a work, in the course of services at a place of worship or other religious assembly;"

To keep both you and your church's activities safe and legal, we highly suggest using the Christian Copyright Licensing, Inc. (CCLI) service to obtain licenses for any music that you intend to use in public for reasons other than education.
